Consumption of instant noodles have increased in recent years due to busy working schedule of people. Instant noodles always seems to be the easiest option to satisfy their empty tummy. Have you ever thought, does this actually fulfill your body’s daily requirement of essential nutrients? Is this easy option also healthy for you or your kid? The answer to these questions is that we should avoid instant noodles due to many reasons. The following are some of them:
High sodium content: According to codex standards 24, additives in instant noodles are sodium salts whose high content can cause many hazardous health problems. Top of the list is of course hypertension then comes heart diseases, stroke and kidney damage.
Propylene glycol: An anti-freezing agent use to retain moisture in the instant noodles is absorbed and accumulate in heart, liver, kidney where they can cause abnormalities. Other than this we should avoid instant noodles because this ant- freezinig agent also has a capability of weakening our immune system.
Cancerous potential: Substances such as dioxin, plasticizers and Styrofoam leached from the containers of these noodles are known cancer causing agents.
Fattening: We should also avoid instant noodles because they are counted as junk food. They have loads of carbohydrates but lack all the other essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fiber etc. This excess of fat and carbohydrate can lead to obesity.
Irregular bowl moments: Noodles interferes with normal bowl movements and digestion of food due to excess of fat and water. They also cause water retention which can be considered one of the cause of irregular bowl moments.
Miscarriage: Pregnant women are advised to avoid instant noodles as they interfere in growth of the fetus and can lead to miscarriage.
Irregular metabolism: Another reason to avoid instant noodles is that the artificial flavoring agents, coloring agents and preservatives added in these noodles can interfere in normal metabolic activities of the body.
Interference in nutrient absorption: Overconsumption of instant noodles can interfere in absorption of other nutrients by the gastro intestinal tract in children below the age of 5. This lack of nutrient absorption inhibits normal physical and mental growth of a child.
Mono Sodium Glutamate: Another reason to avoid instant noodles is addition of monosodium glutamate as the flavoring agent. This chemical can lead to sweating, flushing, headache, nausea, weakness, depression, chest pain, cardiac muscle palpitation, heart palpitations and arrhythmias. Other than this is artificial consumption of glutamate can interfere with the normal functioning of the neurotransmitter glutamate. This chemical is what makes your mouth watery when you hear the brand name of the noodles like an addict. It is used also in some seasoning cubes and powder.
I once consumed a noodle like that and emptied all the seasoning in its pack into the noodles. As I took in the first spoon, I felt some of the symptoms mentioned above, I had to pour the noodles away. Be careful what you take in, cause the right input, always give you the right output but the wrong input, you know the rest!
