“Almost
nothing need be said when you have eyes.”
― Tarjei

Your eye is
an asset that you do not want to loose because there are no retirement plans
for it. A good vision goes a long way in helping you achieve that dream. Close
your eyes and try to move around, maybe you can understand me better. Below are
tips for maintaining or improving your eyesight.
Tip 1: Eat for good vision
#Nutrients
such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and #vitamins C & E might help
ward off age-related vision problems. Green, leafy vegetables, oily fishes,
eggs, nuts, beans, oranges and other citrus fruits are good sources of the
nutrients. A balanced diet is needed.
Tip 2: Avoid smoke and smoking
Smoke from
cigarette puffs or other sources can cause eye irritations which leads to
reddish, dry and scratchy eyes. Smoking increase your chances of developing
cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and other age related eye diseases. A
pregnant woman that smokes may likely give birth to a child with a lazy eye or
other facial defects.
A second hand
smoker is at the same risk or even more as the real smoker!
Tip 3: Wear "Sunglasses" in daylight
Do you want
me to look like a superstar? Maybe, but below are the benefits of putting it
on;
-Too much UV
exposure makes you more likely to get cataracts and macular degeneration.
-They lead to
improved and more comfortable vision from not having to squint.
-They can
make it easier to adapt to darkness. Exposure to bright light can make it more
difficult to adjust to driving at night.
NOTE:
Well-made sunglasses are the ones referred to above. Be careful of substandard
ones, they can mar your vision.
Tip 4: Use safety eyewear while at work
If you work in
hazardous areas that contain airborne materials, it is best that you wear
safety eyewears or goggles.
Even some
sports require you wearing these eyewears. A good example is hockey. I have
seen people going blind because they failed to take precaution.
Tip 5: Exercise your #eyes
The following
exercises can be done while working at your desk.
- Every 20
minutes, rest your eyes by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. At least every
2 hours, get up and take a 15-minute break.
- Use your
gaze to trace the shape of an imaginary figure eight, keeping your head still.
- Spend some
time consciously focusing on blinking to strengthen your eyes and give them a
chance to heal. For the next two minutes blink every 3 – 4 seconds.
Tip 6: Visit the #Eye Doctor Regularly
Everyone,
even young children, should get their eyes examined regularly. It helps you
protect your sight and see your best.
Eye exams can
also find some eye #diseases, such as #glaucoma, that have no symptoms.
It's important to find these diseases early on, when they're easier to treat.
You should make an appointment with an optometrist today.
N.B.: Position your computer so that your eyes are level with the top of the monitor; this allows you to look slightly down at the screen. Try to avoid glare on your computer from windows and lights. Use an anti-glare screen if needed.
